‘Punarudhaya’ Project

This was a collection of projects of which one project was carried out by the LUPPD. The objective of this project was the enhancements of catchment water resources and conservation.  The Presidential Secretariat and the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment provided the funds and it is important to note that there is no maximum value for the money that could be requested for. 

In 2018 the LUPPD office in Kandy mentioned that there are 44 projects which were conducted with a total allocation of funds amounting to 14.4 million rupees.

  1. Funds have been allocated for Disaster Management related activities to mitigate floods and droughts 2019.
  2. The provincial land commissioner has also entrusted the LUPPD to conduct land management and soil conservation related activities on lands.  There is no maximum value which an implementing agency such as the LUPPD could ask for in order to conduct this activity. This project was conducted across the whole of the Central Province.

In 2017-2018 the Punarudhaya Project was implemented in Badulla District, according to LUPPD Assistant Director Badulla Ms. H.S.D Gunasekara, with the sustainable land and water management as the main objectives of this project.
